Fertility specialists at this clinic

Our team of doctors are united by the goal of providing you with an exceptional standard of care and support. With their collective expertise and caring nature, our Box Hill specialists ensure this goal is made a reality.

Fertility services available

At Newlife IVF, we take the time to uncover the underlying cause of your fertility issues before tailoring your care accordingly. For the convenience of our patients, our Box Hill fertility clinic offers comprehensive fertility care – investigations through treatment – in one place. Our co-located services include:

  • Fertility specialist consultation

If you’re finding it difficult to fall pregnant and are considering your alternatives, or if you have been undergoing fertility treatment without success, our team of experienced clinicians is here to help. Dr Sameer Jatkar, Dr Chris Russell, Dr Hugo Fernandes, Dr Amber Kennedy and Dr Lauren Hicks are available for consultations at our Box Hill clinic.

During your initial appointment, your doctor will review your medical history and investigate the reasons behind your fertility issues. After completing a comprehensive fertility assessment, including relevant tests, your fertility specialists will advise what kind of assistance you require to increase your chances of falling pregnant. Your specialist will also offer ongoing support to you throughout your fertility journey.

Note: Newlife IVF’s other doctors consult from our other sites and/or from their private rooms in and around Melbourne. See our online booking page for each doctor’s consulting locations.

  • In vitro fertilisation (IVF)

IVF takes place at our purpose-built Box Hill fertility centre. Depending on the cause of your fertility issues, IVF may represent the best next step for you. However, many couples and individuals are surprised to learn that there are other options to try first before IVF. Your fertility specialist will evaluate your situation before advising you on the most appropriate fertility treatment.

  • Fertility nurse appointments

You will be assigned a fertility nurse, who is your primary contact throughout your treatment. Your nurse works closely with your fertility specialist to provide bespoke, individual care throughout your fertility journey. They will perform tests and scans, assist your fertility doctor while carrying out procedures (such as egg collection) and keep you up to date with each stage of your fertility treatment. Your nurse will also provide education to support you before, during and after your treatment, including how to track your cycle and administer your medication, what your test results mean and your next treatment steps.

  • Counselling appointments

All couples and individuals are required to attend a session with one of our counsellors before starting IVF treatment. This session will help prepare you for your fertility journey, ensuring that you understand the medical advice provided by your doctor, your rights, responsibilities and legal considerations, areas of potential stress and issues that may impact your treatment. Our counsellors also offer additional support (beyond your pre-treatment appointment) to help manage the emotional and physical challenges that can occur during fertility treatment.

  • Financing appointments

Our patient finance manager will provide you with a comprehensive explanation of the expenses associated with IVF treatment. Additionally, they will clarify which private health insurance and Medicare rebates you might qualify for and specify the payment methods and schedule.

  • Fertility procedures

All fertility treatment requiring day surgery or lab access will take place on-site at our dedicated Box Hill fertility centre, operated by Epworth Eastern. This includes egg collection, egg and sperm freezing, embryo transfer, IVF, intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI), testicular sperm retrieval and ovarian tissue freezing.

  • Cycle monitoring

In preparation for egg collection, your fertility nurse or specialist performs cycle monitoring to predict and detect ovulation. This involves using ultrasound to check the growth of your follicles (fluid-filled sacs that contain your eggs) and indicate egg maturation within your ovaries, as well as using blood tests to measure hormonal surges before ovulation.

  • Sperm collection

Sperm collection required for male fertility testing, IVF, IUI, ICSI, IMSI or sperm freezing procedures occurs on-site at the Newlife IVF Andrology Laboratory in Box Hill, Melbourne. Prior to providing the clinic with a semen sample, patients are required to schedule an appointment and acquire a referral letter from their GP. Referral letters from any healthcare provider are accepted, though we suggest that patients ask their doctor to use our recommended form for ease of use.

It is preferred that patients produce the semen sample on-site so that our experts can immediately examine it. Nonetheless, if necessary, you may produce the sample at home provided that you could transport it to our Box Hill clinic within thirty minutes.
